Arrested Atlanta Woman Attempts Arson at MLK Birth Home

A woman was arrested in Atlanta after attempting to set fire to Martin Luther King Jr.'s birth home by dousing it with gasoline. Charged with criminal attempt to commit arson and criminal attempt to damage government property, she could also face federal charges. Two tourists from Utah alerted police after witnessing the incident, and off-duty New York City police officers detained the woman until local authorities arrived. The Atlanta Fire Department's HAZMAT team cleaned up the gasoline, and the home, currently under renovation, is closed to visitors until 2025.
