California Family Members Plead Guilty in $600M Catalytic Converter Ring

Three members of a California family have pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges for their involvement in a ring that shipped $600 million worth of stolen catalytic converters from California to New Jersey. The family members were part of a national network that provided the stolen auto anti-smog devices to a metal refinery in exchange for over $38 million. Catalytic converters are easily stolen and contain valuable precious metals, with California accounting for 37% of catalytic converter theft claims nationwide.
