A California homeowner fatally stabbed a man who was trying to steal a catalytic converter from his car in his driveway. The homeowner confronted up to four crooks with a kitchen knife and stabbed one of the suspects, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The other suspects fled in a small car. Police found tools typically used in catalytic converter thefts next to the suspect's body. The homeowner was taken in for questioning, and no charges have been filed. Catalytic converter thefts have skyrocketed nationwide, and at least one other catalytic converter thief has been killed while committing the crime.
