Daniel Penny Denies Racial Motive in Jordan Neely's Death

Daniel Penny, the Marine veteran charged with the death of homeless man Jordan Neely, has denied any claims of racism and said that the incident "had nothing to do with race." Penny, who was criminally charged over the incident, said that he was "deeply saddened" by Neely's death. Penny's lawyers have argued that the Marine veteran was trying to defend himself and passengers by restraining Neely, who reportedly suffered from mental illness and was acting erratically. Penny is due back to court in July and, if convicted, could spend a maximum of 15 years in prison.
