$21.1M worth of fentanyl discovered in green bean shipment

U.S. Customs and Border Protection found over 3.5 million fentanyl pills worth $21.1 million hidden in a shipment of green beans at the Otay Mesa port in San Diego, California. The pills were concealed in 308 packages weighing over 776 pounds. The driver transporting the shipment has been detained for allegations of attempted narcotic smuggling. Fentanyl mixed with the veterinary tranquilizer xylazine has been named an "emerging threat" by the White House. Drug confiscations continue to be an issue at border patrol checkpoints, with officers conducting 471 fentanyl seizures from October 1 through the end of March.
