FBI Probes White Couple's Cross-Burning Incident Targeting Black Neighbors

The FBI is investigating allegations of racial discrimination after a South Carolina couple, Worden Butler and Alexis Hartnett, were accused of harassing and stalking their Black neighbors. The couple allegedly used racially motivated words and actions, including yelling racial slurs, erecting and burning a cross, and making threatening statements on social media. They were arrested and charged with harassment and assault, but were released. The incidents have sparked calls for a hate crime bill in South Carolina, where no such law currently exists.
