FBI tip to shooter’s parents allegedly ignored by San Diego clinic before mosque attack

Federal officials warned the mother of Caleb Vazquez that her son, then 18, discussed school shootings on the dark web. Vazquez was in treatment at Park Mental Health in San Diego; the lawsuit alleges staff failed to intervene despite signs of imminent danger. Vazquez left the facility the night before the May 2026 mosque attack, in which he and a coconspirator killed three people before dying. He had previous police alerts for alarming behavior and guns were confiscated from his father in 2014.
