Florida Dentist Claims Extortion, Not Guilt, in Murder-for-Hire Case

Florida dentist Charlie Adelson, charged with hiring a hitman to kill his law professor brother-in-law, denied any involvement in the crime but admitted to joking about hiring a hitman. Adelson's sister was engaged in a custody battle with the victim at the time of the murder. Adelson's former girlfriend testified against him, claiming he asked her if she knew anyone who could harm the victim. The triggerman and Adelson's former girlfriend were both convicted and sentenced to life in prison. Adelson claims he was the victim of an extortion plot. The trial is ongoing.
