Florida Man Sentenced to Life for Murder of LGBTQ Advocate and Brother of Former Miami Mayor

A Florida man, Steven R. Yinger, has been sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of the 2022 murder of his roommate, Jorge Diaz-Johnston, an LGBTQ advocate and brother of a former Miami mayor. Yinger was convicted of first-degree murder, tampering with evidence, grand theft motor vehicle, grand theft, and criminal use of a personal identification number. Diaz-Johnston's body was discovered in a landfill, and police believe he was strangled with a ligature. Diaz-Johnston's husband reported him missing, stating that Yinger was his husband's roommate and they had been planning for Yinger to move out.
