Foreclosure Shame: A Deadly Motive?

The unsolved murder of Heidi Firkus in 2010, initially believed to be the result of an intruder breaking into her home, was reopened by investigator Nichole Sipes in 2019. Sipes discovered that Heidi's husband, Nick Firkus, had deliberately hidden their financial troubles from her, including losing their home to foreclosure. Nick was eventually charged and found guilty of Heidi's murder, with evidence suggesting that there was no intruder and that Nick shot himself in the leg after killing Heidi. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole and is currently appealing his conviction.
