Former FBI Counterintelligence Chief in Talks to Plead Guilty for Russian Oligarch Ties

Charles McGonigal, the former head of counterintelligence at the FBI's New York office, is in talks to plead guilty to charges related to his work for Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska after leaving the government. McGonigal was indicted earlier this year for violating US sanctions, conspiracy, and money laundering. He is also facing charges for concealing $225,000 received from a former Albanian intelligence employee. McGonigal, one of the highest-ranking former FBI officials to be charged with a crime, has pleaded not guilty to both indictments. A plea proceeding has been scheduled for next week.
