"Former Mississippi Officers to Plead Guilty for Racist Assault Charges"

Six former white law officers in Mississippi are expected to plead guilty to state charges for torturing two Black men in a racist assault, after admitting their guilt in a related federal civil rights case. The officers, who called themselves the "Goon Squad," entered a house without a warrant, handcuffed and assaulted the victims with stun guns and racial slurs. They then planted drugs and a gun on one of the men to cover up their actions. The officers are expected to plead guilty to charges including home invasion, obstruction of justice, and aggravated assault. Each officer reached an individual plea agreement with prison sentences ranging from five to 30 years. The guilty pleas come after an investigation linked the officers to multiple violent encounters with Black men since 2019.
