Holdout Juror Blocks Acquittal, Mistrial Declared in Lindsay Clancy Case

A lone juror who insisted on reasonable doubt prevented a unanimous verdict, blocking an acquittal in Lindsay Clancy’s case and prompting a mistrial over her criminal responsibility for killing her three children. The foreperson said the holdout would not vote not guilty by reason of insanity, despite others’ attempts to persuade him, and fellow jurors described him as arrogant. Clancy could face another trial, or, if convicted, life in prison; if acquitted, she could be committed for a mental-health evaluation.
