Identity of human remains found at Lake Mead in 1998 finally confirmed

Human remains found at Lake Mead have been identified as belonging to a Las Vegas man who went missing while fishing in 1998. The discovery is one of several made as the lake's water levels drop due to prolonged drought. Last May, a male body with a gunshot wound was found inside a barrel, and a second set of remains was discovered on a nearby sandbar. Another set of skeletal remains, belonging to a drowning victim, was also found. When at full capacity, Lake Mead is the largest human-made reservoir in the U.S., but a decades-long drought has depleted the lake, prompting officials to sign a $200 million conservation deal in 2021.
