Iowa Man Vanishes After Guilty Verdict in Wife's Murder Trial

Gregory Showalter Sr., who was on trial for the murder of his wife of 40 years, disappeared just before a jury could announce his guilty verdict. He has since cut off his GPS ankle monitor and shut off his cellphone. Showalter had been out on bail and was charged with strangling his wife and dumping her body in the Des Moines River. Despite his absence, the jury found him guilty of first-degree murder, abuse of a corpse, willful injury causing serious injury, and domestic abuse assault. Authorities are currently searching for Showalter, who faces a mandatory life sentence without parole if found.
