Joran van der Sloot to Face Sentencing in Natalee Holloway Extortion Case

Joran van der Sloot, the prime suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Natalee Holloway, is set to appear in court for a plea and sentencing hearing related to a fraud scheme. Van der Sloot is accused of attempting to extort money from Holloway's family by promising to provide information about her body's location. He was indicted in 2010 on charges of wire fraud and extortion. Currently serving a 28-year sentence in Peru for the murder of another woman, van der Sloot was extradited to the United States for this case. Holloway's mother had sent him a $25,000 down payment, which he used for gambling.
