Long Island nurse arrested for slamming newborn into bassinet

A Long Island nurse, Amanda Burke, was arrested for allegedly slamming a 2-day-old infant face down into his bassinet while caring for him in the neonatal intensive care unit of Good Samaritan Hospital. The incident was caught on tape by the baby's father, and Burke was fired within hours of the incident. Burke has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor. Her lawyer claims she has cared for infants with "love and compassion," and her registered nurse license has not been suspended.
