Man Indicted for Threatening Georgia Officials Connected to Trump Case

An Alabama man, Arthur Ray Hanson II, has been indicted for allegedly threatening the Georgia district attorney, Fani Willis, and Sheriff Patrick Labat, who are prosecuting former President Donald Trump and his associates for attempting to overturn the 2020 election. The charges include transmitting interstate threats to injure public servants. Threats against officials have become a growing problem as politics becomes more polarized, with many potential candidates thinking twice before running for office due to threats and discomfort. Trump and 18 of his allies were charged in Georgia for violating the state's racketeering act and other offenses. Hanson left threatening voicemails warning of consequences if Trump's mug shot was taken, and told Willis to be afraid and watch her back. Four of the 19 indicted in the Georgia case have pleaded guilty so far.
