Mangione’s NY Murder Trial to Use Anonymous Jury, Court Rules

A New York judge ordered that the jury for Luigi Mangione’s state murder trial be anonymous, with jury selection set to begin Sept. 8. The case centers on the December 2024 shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The parties will collaborate on a jury questionnaire to screen for bias as voir dire follows; the trial will allow expanded media access with an overflow room. Mangione faces up to life in prison if convicted and separately faces federal stalking charges; the DOJ had sought the death penalty in the federal case but that option was dropped earlier this year.
