Michigan Trooper Charged with Murder for Fatal Car Incident

Michigan State Police trooper Brian Keely has been charged with second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter for striking and killing Samuel Sterling, a Black man fleeing from officers, with his police vehicle. Attorney General Dana Nessel stated that Keely's actions were grossly negligent and created a high risk of death or great bodily harm. Keely has been suspended without pay, and an arraignment date has not yet been scheduled.
