Minnesota man convicted of first-degree murder for beheading girlfriend in front of onlookers.

Alexis Saborit, a Minnesota man, was convicted of first-degree murder for beheading his girlfriend, America Thayer, in front of witnesses. The judge found that Saborit's possession of a machete, threats made prior to the killing, and a tumultuous relationship marked by frequent arguments and accusations of abuse showed premeditation. Saborit attacked Thayer with an 8-pound dumbbell before decapitating her with a machete. He was on the way to his court appearance for felony charges alleging that he set fire to their apartment and attacked Thayer after she told him she wanted to end their relationship. Saborit is expected to be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
