Missouri man executed for double jailer murder during escape attempt.

Michael Tisius, who killed two jailers during a failed attempt to help an acquaintance escape from a rural jail in Missouri in 2000, was executed by lethal injection on Tuesday. Tisius was convicted of the killings of Leon Egley and Jason Acton at the Randolph County Jail. His lawyers had urged the U.S. Supreme Court to block the execution, alleging that a juror at a sentencing hearing was illiterate, in violation of Missouri law. The court rejected that motion. Tisius expressed remorse for his crimes in a final written statement.
