Mistaken Identity: Virginia Man's Brutal Murder of Innocent Woman

Richard Montano, 48, was convicted of first-degree murder for brutally killing Silvia "Kelly" Vaca Abacay, 40, whom he mistakenly believed to be his ex-girlfriend. Montano stabbed and beat Abacay, inflicting multiple injuries, before setting her apartment on fire. Abacay had been staying with a friend who had recently ended a relationship with Montano. The crime was captured on a Ring doorbell camera, and neighbors called 911 after hearing screams and loud noises. Abacay's body was found on fire, and life-saving measures were unsuccessful. Montano faces up to life in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced in January 2024.
