Multiple Discoveries of Human Remains in Construction Sites and County Investigations.

Construction workers in Asheville discovered what appeared to be human remains at a construction site on June 16, 2023. An archeologist firm was monitoring the construction activities, and the discovery was evaluated and documented by representatives from the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, the N.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Asheville Police Department officers, detectives, and forensic technicians. The discovery was deemed historical and subject to state and federal protection, and construction will not be allowed within the barrier around the area of discovery.
