Nashville Police Praised for Heroic Response to Shootings

Two Nashville police officers, Michael Collazo and Rex Engelbert, are being hailed as heroes after taking down school shooter Audrey Hale, who had already taken six lives, including three young children. Collazo, a Marine Corps veteran, was among the first responders at the 2020 Christmas Day bombing in Nashville. Engelbert, a four-year police department veteran, received a commendation for “precision policing” just one week before the shooting. The two officers’ swift response to the shooting was so precise and effective that one expert called the bodycam footage “a training video.” Hale, who was transgender, was shot and killed by the two officers.
