NC Trooper Shoots and Kills Suspect After Being Shot

A North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper, identified as Jeffrey L. Dunlap, shot and killed a motorist, Wesley Taylor, who had fired at him during a traffic stop on Interstate 26 near Asheville. The trooper was wearing a ballistic vest, which protected him from the bullets. Dunlap returned fire, hitting Taylor, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The trooper has been released from the hospital and will be placed on administrative duty while the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation conducts an investigation into the incident.
