Pennsylvania mother charged with murder after strangling son over family's financial struggles.

A Pennsylvania mother has been charged with murder after she strangled her 11-year-old son with her husband's belt while he slept. Ruth DiRienzo-Whitehead told authorities that she did not want her son to grow up with the family's financial difficulties. She was also charged with third-degree murder and possessing an instrument of a crime. The mother drove the family's SUV to Cape May, New Jersey, and drove it into the ocean. She was found walking down the street wearing "tattered" pajamas and appeared disheveled and confused.
