Prosecutors seek 25-year sentence for convicted Oath Keepers founder in Jan. 6 insurrection.

Federal prosecutors are seeking a 25-year prison sentence for Stewart Rhodes, the founder of the far-right militia group Oath Keepers, for his role in plotting to prevent the peaceful transfer of power during the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol. If ordered, this would be the longest sentence handed down in the wave of over 1,000 prosecutions stemming from the assault on the Capitol. Rhodes was on Capitol grounds but did not enter the building on the day of the attack.
