Repeat Offender: Driver in Fatal Minneapolis Crash Previously Pled Guilty in Earlier Wreck

The man suspected of driving while impaired and causing a crash that killed five young women in Minneapolis has been identified as 27-year-old Derrick Thompson, who had previously been sentenced to eight years in prison for a 2018 crash in California that left a woman in a coma. Thompson, the son of former state Rep. John Thompson, has several other convictions, including one related to driving. The Somali community came out in thousands to show support for the family of the five women killed in the crash. Thompson is expected to be charged on Tuesday.
