"Seven Officers Charged in In-Custody Death of California Man"

Seven California Highway Patrol officers and a nurse have been charged with involuntary manslaughter and assault in connection with the death of Edward Bronstein during a traffic stop in 2020. Bronstein died after being held down by officers while he screamed "I can't breathe". The officers were attempting to take a blood sample from him after he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Medical examiners found that Bronstein's death was caused by "acute methamphetamine intoxication during restraint by law enforcement". The officers face up to four years in prison if convicted.
