South Elgin Girl from Netflix Series Found Safe in North Carolina

A girl who was abducted from South Elgin six years ago was found in Asheville, North Carolina, after someone recognized her mother from a media report and called the police. The girl's mother was taken into custody and expected to be extradited to northern Illinois, where she is accused of abducting her daughter. The girl, now 15 years old, was placed into the custody of the North Carolina Division of Social Services and was expected to be reunited with family and brought back to Illinois. The girl's disappearance was featured on an episode of the Netflix series "Unsolved Mysteries" in November 2022.
