Suspect charged in fatal shooting of Hermann police officer.

Kenneth Simpson, accused of killing one Hermann police officer and wounding another, has pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder, first-degree assault, unlawful possession of a firearm, and two counts of armed criminal action. The probable cause statement details the fatal encounter between Simpson and the officers, who were called to a store because of an irate customer. Simpson allegedly denied his identity and grew agitated before pulling out a handgun and firing at the officers. Simpson was arrested following an hours-long standoff with authorities and admitted to being on the run because of arrest warrants. He claimed he planned to commit "suicide by cop" and did not intend to kill anyone but himself.
