Texas Man Executed Despite Claim of False Expert Testimony

Brent Ray Brewer, a Texas man convicted of killing a man during a robbery in 1990, was executed after the U.S. Supreme Court declined to intervene. Brewer claimed that his death sentence was based on false and discredited expert testimony. His lawyers argued that a prosecution expert falsely claimed Brewer would be a future danger, a finding necessary for imposing the death penalty. Despite these claims, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals dismissed the appeal without reviewing the merits. Brewer expressed remorse and a desire to apologize to the victim's family. He is the seventh inmate executed in Texas this year.
