A witness to the subway incident where Marine veteran Daniel Penny fatally choked an erratic homeless man, Jordan Neely, has called him a hero and criticized Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for charging him with second-degree manslaughter. The witness, who has lived in New York City for over 50 years, said Penny intervened in self-defense and saved many people from harm. She also criticized the use of race to divide people and expressed sympathy for Neely, who suffered from mental illness. Penny is due back in court on July 17.
