"Three San Antonio Police Officers Charged with Murder in Fatal Shooting of Woman"

Three San Antonio police officers have been charged with murder after they shot and killed 46-year-old Melissa Perez inside her apartment during a mental health crisis. The officers did not follow department training or policy and used deadly force, according to SAPD Chief William McManus. The officers were released on bond and are under investigation by SAPD’s Internal Affairs and Homicide units and the Bexar County District Attorney’s Civil Rights Division. Body camera footage shows the officers attempting to coax Perez outside before shooting her through a patio window and door.
