Tragic Death of Off-Duty Chicago Police Officer Outside Her Home

Off-duty Chicago police officer Areanah Preston, 24, was shot and killed in front of her home in Avalon Park. Her service weapon was stolen and no suspects are in custody at this time. Preston had just finished her work shift and was on track to graduate with a Masters of Jurisprudence from Loyola University. The investigation is ongoing to determine if she was targeted or the victim of a robbery. Mayor Lori Lightfoot expressed her condolences to the family and colleagues of the victim.
