The US Coast Guard seized over 14,000 pounds of cocaine worth more than $186 million in nine separate seizures across the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea. Twelve suspected smugglers were apprehended and face federal prosecution. The surge in cocaine production and demand globally has caused a sharp jump in law enforcement interceptions of cocaine shipments, hitting a record of nearly 2,000 tons in 2021.
