US Mass Shootings Continue to Rise in 2023, with Workplaces and AR-15s Among Common Themes

Workplace-related mass shootings are the most common type of mass shootings in the US, accounting for over 30% of all recorded incidents since 1966, according to data from The Violence Project. The majority of perpetrators had been fired from their jobs. Employment-related issues were the biggest motivator behind these incidents. In 2020, 392 US workers were workplace homicide victims, with retail workers being the most affected. The CDC also found that 20,050 workers in the private industry experienced trauma from nonfatal workplace violence in 2020.
