"Utah Mother Escapes Death Penalty in Husband's Murder Case"

Prosecutors in Utah have announced that they will not seek the death penalty against Kouri Richins, a widow accused of killing her husband and later authoring a children's book about grief. Richins is facing an aggravated murder charge, which will now be handled as a noncapital first-degree felony. Prosecutors allege that she killed her husband using a lethal fentanyl dose. Richins also faces charges of criminal homicide and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
