"Vigilante Woman Sentenced to Life for Murder in Citizen's Arrest Gone Wrong"

A woman in Clayton County, Georgia, has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole for chasing down and killing a hit-and-run driver in May 2019. The woman, Hannah Payne, was found guilty of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Prosecutors stated that Payne followed the driver, Kenneth Herring, after he hit another car and drove off, confronting and shooting him despite orders from a 911 operator not to pursue him. Defense attorneys argued that Herring shot himself during a struggle with the gun.
