"Virginia Deputies Charged with Murder at State Mental Hospital, Civil Rights Attorney Ben Crump Joins Otieno Family Legal Team"

Seven Virginia sheriff’s deputies have been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Irvo Otieno, a 28-year-old man who died while in custody at a state mental hospital. The deputies were accused of smothering Otieno during the intake process after he became combative. Video footage showed the deputies throwing Otieno to the floor, pepper-spraying and punching him. His preliminary cause of death was asphyxiation. The defendants are due back in court on Tuesday.
