Virginia Officer Fired and Video Released After Fatal Shooting of Unarmed Man Suspected of Shoplifting

A Virginia police officer has been fired and is under criminal investigation after shooting and killing an unarmed shoplifting suspect. The officer, Sergeant Wesley Shifflett, was terminated for not meeting the expectations of the police department's use of force policies, protocols, and procedures. Shifflett denies any wrongdoing and says he was protecting himself from a suspect who refused all police commands. Bodycam footage shows the officers chasing the suspect through a shopping mall and a parking garage, into a grassy, wooded area of the mall property while shouting verbal commands.
