Wintergreen Police Officer Fatally Shot, Suspect in Custody

Virginia State Police identified Officer Mark Christopher Wagner as the officer shot and killed in Wintergreen, VA, while responding to an emergency call about a male who had assaulted two other men. Wagner was the first to arrive at the scene and located the suspect in the nearby woods, where a struggle ensued, resulting in Wagner being shot and killed. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident and transported to UVA Medical Center for treatment. The investigation remains active.
