Woman receives longer prison sentence for fatal shove of elderly singing coach

Lauren Pazienza, a woman who pleaded guilty to fatally shoving an 87-year-old Broadway singing coach onto a Manhattan sidewalk, has been sentenced to six months more in prison than the previously agreed-upon eight years. The judge expressed doubt that Pazienza took responsibility for her actions and sentenced her accordingly. The victim, Barbara Maier Gustern, died five days after the incident. Pazienza attacked Gustern in an unprovoked and senseless attack after storming out of a nearby park. Gustern was a well-known vocal teacher whose students included Debbie Harry and Taylor Mac.
