The Houston Independent School District is undergoing a reorganization that will result in the elimination of hundreds of positions at the central office. Superintendent Mike Miles stated that around 500 to 600 positions in the chief academic office and about 40 positions in human resources will be cut. The reorganization aims to make the district more effective and efficient, with department chiefs assessing vacancies and deciding whether to fill or eliminate them. The process is expected to be completed by July 17, and affected employees will have the option to apply for vacant positions within the district or seek opportunities elsewhere. Other departments, including communications, school leadership, and professional development, will also undergo reorganization.
