The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) is facing a three-day strike starting Tuesday, led by the district's two largest employee groups, Local 99 and United Teachers Los Angeles. The strike would affect more than 420,000 students and is the largest and longest full disruption of education in the nation's second-largest school system since the six-day teachers' strike of 2019. The unions are demanding higher pay and improved working and learning conditions, while the district is offering a 5% ongoing wage increase retroactive to July 1, 2021, and additional bonuses.
