Rutgers Faculty Unions Go on Strike Amid Talks Breakdown.

Rutgers faculty unions representing educators, researchers, and clinicians will strike indefinitely starting Monday morning, shutting down classes for the first time in the state university's 256-year history, after reaching a stalemate in contract negotiations with Rutgers President Jonathan Holloway's administration that had dragged on since July. The unions are demanding higher wages for graduate workers and longer contracts with benefits for part-time professors. Holloway has indicated that he will seek a court order to stop the strike, but union leaders say a strike would only be illegal if a court order is issued forbidding them from stopping work.
