Healthcare Workers Unite for Labor Day Rallies and Contract Demands

Healthcare workers from Kaiser Permanente rallied in Hollywood, blocking part of Sunset Boulevard in a Labor Day demonstration to protest the HMO's labor practices. Roughly two dozen protesters were peacefully arrested, including two older women in wheelchairs. The Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions, representing over 85,000 healthcare workers, is negotiating its first contract renewal since 2019 and is calling for increased hiring and a $25 per hour minimum wage for front-line health workers. The unions have begun voting on whether to authorize a strike if no agreement is reached before the current contract expires on September 30.
