Derek Chauvin Takes State Murder Conviction Appeal to US Supreme Court

Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer convicted of killing George Floyd, will appeal his state murder conviction to the US Supreme Court after Minnesota's highest court declined to review his case. Chauvin's lawyers argue that he was denied a fair trial due to pervasive adverse publicity and should have been granted a change of venue. Chauvin was found guilty of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter and was sentenced to 22 and a half years in prison. He also pleaded guilty to federal charges of violating Floyd's civil rights and received a concurrent 21-year sentence.
