Idaho approves firing-squad executions in limited cases.

Idaho has passed a bill allowing firing squads to execute condemned inmates when lethal-injection drugs are unavailable. The state previously had a firing squad option on the books but removed it in 2009. Firing squads will only be used if lethal injection drugs cannot be obtained. Idaho joins Mississippi, Utah, Oklahoma, and South Carolina in allowing firing squads as a method of execution. The bill was prompted in part by the state's inability to execute Gerald Pizzuto Jr. last year.
